cut linen over acrylic and gold collage on canvas
In this work I cut the linen which when it falls over the stretched canvas it gives it a 3D quality. The gold collage shines in the light. The black canvas that peers through gives the whole thing depth. The scene depicts a forest with gold falling leaves.

Detail: Gold collage windup Mouse with watch parts
This painting came about when I was thinking about how I spend my time as I am working for myself as an artist. What am I chasing? There is the free element of the owl flying and the time fleeing the scene. I like to mix painted elements with mixed media 2D pieces that give the piece low relief.

Boxing Hares fight over silver egg

oil, silver marker on linen canvas
40 x 51 x 2 cm unframed
51.7 x 61.5 x 4.5 cm framed
I was inspired by some stuffed boxing hares in a local museum for this painting. The English folklore behind boxing hares is that they were thought to have been witches. Why do hares box? What are they fighting for? What would be worth it? Here they are shown with an outline of a silver egg. Eggs are symbols of Easter, fertility and a silver egg symbolises the moon. The silver changes in the light depending where you stand in front of the painting. The sandy linen canvas shows through the paint.

This painting is inspired from Alice and Wonderland.
Alice playing flamingo croquet with hedgehogs.
I like the contrast of the flat stencil flamingo against the outline of alice. The spikes from the hedgehog suggest danger and invite the viewer to invent thier own narrative.

This is a self portrait depicting myself with antlers in a reference to nature and my American Indian roots. The collaged on men's shirt pattern is a reference to my putting on my business hat or shirt in this case by becoming a self employed artist. The transparency of the shirt pattern with the black text sits nicely against the sandy linen sealed with a clear sealer to prepare it for painting.

Rusty Crows acrylic stencil and metallic paint on linen canvas
122 x 91.5 x 4 cm
This painting was inspired by seeing a flock of crows take flight in a field and seeing their outline against the blue sky. The truck is a typical farm vehicle and a reference to my American heritage. The silver on this piece reflects in the light and the bright neon green paint suggest foliage. The sandy linen background is left bare to suggest the terrain.

oil, fabric, stencil, collage, studs on linen canvas
91.5 x 122 x 4 cm
This painted outline of a boy with his dog is taken from a family photo of my dad with his jack russell terrier in his front yard in 1950's USA. The studs on the dog's harness mirror the original image and add an element of low relief. Blue butterflies fill the kiddy pool, stencil suggests grass while the fabric gold stars suggest the cosmic or walls of a room.

Facing the World fabric, bee, oil on linen canvas
122 x 91.5 x 4 cm
This painting is a self portrait inspired from an old photo of myself dressed up for ballet. The outfit had a tassle tail and headdress to represent a horse. The roses are fabric. The straps are collaged on fortune cookies with messages. The bee's path loops leaving behind a collaged text about the future possibilites she could take. The bee is in low relief as is the paper flower in the hair of the girl depicted. The salmon and cool pink envelopes the girl in the way pink is thought of as for girls. The sandy linen is the empty space that the girl will step into at that age between childhood and adolescence.

Free as a Bird
4 canvases 30 x 40 x 4 cm each
oil, mixed media collage on canvas
This painting consists of four small canvases together. The birds are painted and collaged on. The gold collage reflects in the light. The tree branches make a silhouette which the graphic birds sit on. The golden cage is made with gold marker and a clear plastic sheet from which the black stencil bird takes flight. Some of the white birds have heart shaped beaks by leaving that space empty and letting the sandy linen canvas show through for a reference to love birds.
